When choosing a home, it’s important to try to look beyond the aesthetics and to focus on whether or not the house will function well for you and your family. You’ve got to consider things like the size of your family, whether or not everyone can manage stairs, if keeping your maintenance costs low is a major priority, and so on.
While the Saskatoon real estate market offers many different styles of homes, two popular options are bungalows and bi-level homes. Get to know what each of these styles of houses has to offer:
Over the years, bungalows have become synonymous with relaxed living. Whether or not that’s important to you, there are many aspects of this design that some people prefer over other types of houses. While some bungalows contain a half or even a full second story, most are single story dwellings. In Canada, bungalows are typically free-standing, single story homes with relatively open floor plans. People who find it difficult to go up and down stairs often benefit from having the entire living space on one level, although most bungalows also have a full basement.
Bi-Level or Split Level Living
Bi-level homes are laid out over a two and one half story frame. Typically, when you enter the home, there will be stairs leading up to the main level of the house, as well as a set of stairs leading to a lower level. The lower level of the home is often finished and contains a family or recreation room, along with utility and laundry rooms. Sometimes there is also an unfinished crawl space below the lower level. The ceilings are typically lower than they are on the upper level of the home.
The top level contains the kitchen, dining room, bedrooms and bathrooms. Some homes have decks that lead outside through this upper level.
